    The admission window for submitting applications to join the University of Johannesburg (UJ) for the 2025 academic year is officially opened from 01/04/2024 to 31/10/2024. All applicants are advised to strongly follow these dates to avoid missing the application deadline

    Applications open on 1 April of the year preceding the year of intended study and close on 31 October 2024 at 12:00 except for the following programmes:

      Provide proof of the English Proficiency where English was not used as a medium of learning and teaching (the University prefers the applicant to take the IELTS at an overall score of 6 and TOEFL at an average score of 80–104 for Undergraduate programmes) Alternatively, you may elect to write the University of Johannesburg English Language Programme Test (UJELP). Should you choose to write the University of Johannesburg English Language Programme Test (UJELP), you are required to obtain an overall score of 6.     • In case were both first and second choices were unsuccessful, International Admissions office will offer an international applicant an alternative option when meeting the requirements
    • Should you require on campus accommodation, please submit a completed residence application form at the same time you apply to study at UJ

    Applicants who are attending or have attended a university within or outside the Republic of South Africa, must submit an academic transcript that covers the period of study, especially if they intend on being granted exemption from modules or courses at University.

    Degree seeking students

    In order to study for a South African degree applicants are required to have achieved a South African National Senior Certificate with a degree endorsement. All International applicants with high school qualifications achieved outside of the Republic of South Africa require a certificate of exemption from the Matriculation Board of South Africa for admission into undergraduate studies. The following supporting documents must be submitted to the Matriculation Board on the address provided below;

    • Form M30 (this form can be downloaded on the Matriculation Board website https://mb.usaf.ac.za)
    • Correctly certified copies of the applicants educational qualifications certified by a South African High Commission,
    • Consulate, Trade Mission or a Public Notary in your home country
    • A correctly certified copy of your passport or birth certificate certified by a South African High Commission, Consulate,
    • Trade Mission or a Public Notary in your home country
    • Sworn English Translation of documents (Documents issued in any Language other than English)

    Applicants from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Congo Brazzaville will have to apply for Matriculation Exemption directly with Matriculation Board. Please submit all correctly certified copies by mail when applying by hardcopy application or e-mail when have applied online. The University faculties have different APS (Admission Points System) for admission.     UJ Application Process (Step by step Guide)

    The process of applying for admission to the University of Johannesburg (UJ) is simple and can be done both offline and online.

    To submit you application online, you can follow the steps below.

    • Visit the official UJ website at uj.ac.za.
    • Once the Website Homepage Opens, Navigate to the “ADMISSIONS” Section
    • The Menu Items will be displayed, Click the “Undergraduate” for undergraduate Admissions or “Postgraduate” for Postgraduate Admissions
    • The Undergraduate admissions Page will open, Click the button which says “New Applicant APPLY HERE” which will take you to the application page.
    • Here, you will need to fill out an application form with your personal details, including your name, address, and contact information.
    • After filling in your personal details, you will be required to choose the course you want to study. UJ offers various courses in various fields, from arts to science. Once you have chosen your course, you will need to provide more details about your previous education and your exam results.
    • Finally, you will receive an email message from UJ confirming that your application has been received and is in the review process. Please note that this process can take time, so patience is required.

    PAPER APPLICATIONS

    • Step 1: Select your qualification study choices1 and 2. (Ensure you meet the admission requirements as set out in this prospectus.)
    • Step 2: If you do not have a UJ student number, please make an application fee payment of R200 and complete the UJ academic application form.
    • Step 3: Submit your application to any of UJ’s four campuses. Please allow for three weeks before checking on the status of your application. If your application meets the necessary requirements and there is space in your selected programme, you will be informed on whether your application has been successful or not.

    Apply online for which no application fee is charged, or, apply with a paper-based application form and pay an application fee of R200 into UJ’s bank account (first-time applicants only).
